The Scoop on Beeswax - its the bee's knees!

The Scoop on Beeswax - its the bee's knees! - Hippie Dippie Ohio

If you've followed us for some time, you'll notice we utilize beeswax in a variety of our products. All our beeswax is sourced locally from Honeyrun Farm in Williamsport, Ohio as they produce exceptional products. We love that their honey is never pasteurized or high-pressure filtered and are 100% pure and raw, just how we like it. In addition to their great honey products, they produce exceptionally nice beeswax from their hives... That's where we come in.

A little background on beeswax

Beeswax has been being used for a variety of purposes since ancient times, as far back as 9000 years or more based on our current understanding. This includes the Egyptians as well as the Romans. Back then, people used it similarly to the way we use it now; for candles, medicine, treating wood, and of course cosmetics. Its incredibly resourceful, sustainable, renewable, and basically never "goes bad" as it doesn't spoil over time. It really is a gift from nature and our worker bees!

Why beeswax?

Beeswax is an emulsifier, is incredibly stable, and is a powerful humectant. This makes it a perfect addition to many cosmetic products. While it provides a very good barrier for the skin that is semi-occlusive (helps reduce loss of moisture from the skin), Its still incredibly non-comedogenic. Allowing the skin to breath freely while remaining hydrated. This allows it to protect the skin effectively but also be sensitive enough to not clog pores or irritate acne-prone skin types.

Beeswax helps the skin attract and retain moisture, and when combined with a moisturizer, the two pack a powerful punch for dry skin. Its also inflammatory, anti-bacterial, and is full of antioxidants, so it can help heal damaged or irritated skin. In addition, helps soften skin and improve collagen production and is loaded with vitamin A and other natural compounds.

All in all, beeswax is a skincare powerhouse that can help with dry/itchy skin, sensitive skin, dermatitis, eczema, rosacea, psoriasis, burns, chapped lips, stretch-marks, as well as give our skin the compounds it needs to stay nourished and healthy.
